Start slowly to hear each character. Audio is limited to 3 minutes.
Make a sound you can learn from
Type English letters, numbers or punctuation, then choose Listen. You can stop at any time. Adjust the speed and pitch to suit your ears; these settings also apply to the WAV file you download.
Choose your pace
Speed is measured in words per minute (WPM), using the standard word PARIS as a timing reference. A lower speed makes both sounds and pauses longer. This generator uses the same speed for characters and spacing; it does not add separate Farnsworth spacing.
Choose your tone
Pitch changes how high or low the tone sounds, from 300 to 1,000 Hz. Try 600 Hz first, and keep your device volume comfortable. Changing pitch does not change the message or its timing.
Save your message
WAV audio is a mono sound file you can open in an audio player or editor. Text downloads contain the written dots and dashes. Messages must fit within three minutes at your chosen speed; shorten the message or increase the speed if needed.
What do the sounds mean?
A dot lasts one time unit and a dash lasts three. Inside a character, sounds are separated by one unit. Letters have three units of silence between them; words have seven. At 20 WPM, one unit is 0.06 seconds.
Compare a sound with the Morse alphabet chart, or follow the beginner learning guide for a short listening exercise. To decode written symbols, use the Morse code translator.
